New Grog on the Event Horizon

August 16th, 2009 by the pirate William. Filed under "Uncategorized".

Ahoy Mateys,
Bones here with some news from the 3 Privateers of the Northern Hemisphere.

New Grog will be on it’s way shortly and I promise all ye Mates and Lass’s that your tables will be sorely wanting if you do not jump on the wagon and put your order in post haste. I cannot divulge what it is at present but it is sure to not disappoint all ye lovers of grog and ale. I can say this though, this grog be made from grain and not from grapes. It’s as dark as the bottom of the 7 seas. Be the 1st on your ship to put your orders in. Those that respond to this blog will be first in line to reap the rewards of the high seas and beyond. ETA on the new grog’s release is October 1st. Till then,
It’s Cap’n Bill Bones, off to the High Seas !

Well Me Hearty’s
June Gloom has turned to July’s Fry and Jesse Sam and I have worked like the devil to bring
some fine wines to your table. This month I am proud to present Fenestra as our Winery of the month. If you dig in the video section of our blog you will see the interview on our friends at Fenestra. Lanny, Fran, Brent and Meredith have worked tirelessly to bring you their award winning wines.
These are fabulous wines and many of them from unusual grapes, at least in this hemisphere.
You who read our chronicles owe it to yourselves to taste some of these wines or pass them along as gifts. And Speaking of gifts……
July also marks the beginning of the Double Crossed Wine Club, aka Radar Wines.
Every ship worth it’s salt has radar and we have you on our wine radar.
Please take the time to see what we have to offer you. Our club boasts a 20, 40 and 60 dollar price point and this is the delivered price so as to leave you no doubt that we have pulled out all the stops to bring quality and value to your table.  If the club is not your thing, perhaps it would be a great gift for your loved ones. You can pre pay in advance by calling customer service and bring that special person or persons in your life the gift of Wine.

With that, I bid you farewell till next I post or you respond and I leave you with a shanty that has stood the test of time.  It’s Captain Bill Bones, off to the High Seas !

Fifteen men on a dead man’s chest
Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum
Drink and the devil had done for the rest
Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum.
The mate was fixed by the bosun’s pike
The bosun brained with a marlinspike
And cookey’s throat was marked belike
It had been gripped by fingers ten;
And there they lay, all good dead men
Like break o’day in a boozing ken
Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum.

Fifteen men of the whole ship’s list
Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!
Dead and bedamned and the rest gone whist!
Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!
The skipper lay with his nob in gore
Where the scullion’s axe his cheek had shore
And the scullion he was stabbed four times four
And there they lay, and the soggy skies
Dripped down in up-staring eyes
In murk sunset and foul sunrise
Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum.

Fifteen men of ‘em stiff and stark
Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!
Ten of the crew had the murder mark!
Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!
Twas a cutlass swipe or an ounce of lead
Or a yawing hole in a battered head
And the scuppers’ glut with a rotting red
And there they lay, aye, damn my eyes
All lookouts clapped on paradise
All souls bound just contrarywise
Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum.

Fifteen men of ‘em good and true
Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!
Every man jack could ha’ sailed with Old Pew,
Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!
There was chest on chest of Spanish gold
With a ton of plate in the middle hold
And the cabins riot of stuff untold,
And they lay there that took the plum
With sightless glare and their lips struck dumb
While we shared all by the rule of thumb,
Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!

More was seen through a sternlight screen…
Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum
Chartings undoubt where a woman had been
Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum.
‘Twas a flimsy shift on a bunker cot
With a dirk slit sheer through the bosom spot
And the lace stiff dry in a purplish blot
Oh was she wench or some shudderin’ maid
That dared the knife and took the blade
By God! she had stuff for a plucky jade
Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum.

Fifteen men on a dead man’s chest
Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum
Drink and the devil had done for the rest
Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum.
We wrapped ‘em all in a mains’l tight
With twice ten turns of a hawser’s bight
And we heaved ‘em over and out of sight,
With a Yo-Heave-Ho! and a fare-you-well
And a sudden plunge in the sullen swell
Ten fathoms deep on the road to hell,
Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!

“Word from the Winemaker” Video Series

June 18th, 2009 by the pirate Samuel. Filed under "The Store, Videos, Website Development".

So it’s a daunting task, but I’m working on making a short video about every wine we sell. I want it to be from the mouths of the winemakers themselves.

So far, I’ve made a video for every Fenestra wine in our stock. We interviewed head winemaker Brent Amos last week. I’ll drop another blog post when I’ve done the next winery. Want to view all Fenestra wines? Click here.

Here’s an example of the videos. I hope the next round we can get a little more info on each video…

June Events and more from Double Crossed Wines

June 11th, 2009 by the pirate William. Filed under "Events, News".

Ahoy all ye readers of the Double Crossed Wines Blog. Cap’n Bill Bones at the helm with some exciting news to combat the June gloom that has settled upon the Double Crossed Wine Vessel, now moored in the San Francisco Bay. May was an exciting month for Double Crossed as we were invited to pair our Cable Bay and Culley wines with oysters on the half shell at the 10th Annual O’Reilly’s Oyster Fest at Fort Mason in lovely San Francisco. The weather cooperated and we were able to show the masses just what is being done down under… with the 2008 Culley Sauvignon Blanc and the 2005 Cable Bay Chardonnay. The crowds agreed with what we already knew.  San Francisco is ready for Cable Bay and Culley. The crowd was 14,000 strong and as many that weathered the long line for a chance to sip this glorious nectar, got back in line again to sample more, some up to 3 and 4 times.  For those of you that haven’t tried the Cable Bay or Culley Wines, I urge you to buy a bottle today.  These are fabulous wines and summer is upon us. The Cable Bay Chardonnay and Pinot Noir are exceptional wines that are fit for the table of the Queen herself, or the galley at Double Crossed.  The Culley  Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir and Sauv. Blanc are mind blowing and an exceptional value.  And did I mention that the Cable Bay Pinot Noir and Culley Sauvignon Blanc were chosen to be poured in the VIP tent for the event? That is no small feat Mateys.

Now on to June. Double Crossed Wines has been invited to participate in 2 events this month in the San Francisco area.

1st is the Fairfax Eco Fest (http://www.wpn.org/ecofestival/food.php) where we will be pouring the exceptional wines of  Tony Coturri. Tony’s wines are Au naturel, with no chemical additions and the wines are fermented using native yeasts which reside on the grapes themselves. The end product is better tasted than described. No chemicals, just grapes and wonderful flavor that speaks of the grapes origin. If you happen to be in the Fairfax California area on June 13th or 14th, please drop by the Double Crossed table, mention that you read about the event on the blog and I will pour a cup of the  purest Ambrosia, for you to see just what I am talking about.

2nd up is  the San Anselmo Art and Wine festival on June 27 - 28,  again pouring the phenomenal wines of Veteran Organic maker  Tony Coturri. http://www.sananselmochamber.org/ This is a 2 day event and I along with Sam and Jesse will be there to pour Tony’s 2007 Testa Vineyards Carignane, and the 2006 Albarello.  Again, if you happen to be in the San Anselmo California area during these 2 days, drop by our tent and mention that you read about us on the blog and I will give you a generous pour of these wines.

Well, my fingers are getting tired and the crew needs their Cap’n. All ye bloggers and readers fare well till next we meet.

It’s Bill Bones,  off to the High Seas!
