Fenestra just placed "Double Gold" at the Riverside International Wine Competition where its 2006 Touriga placed "Unanimous Gold", missing the Best Wine of the entire event by a mere 2 points. Also winning Best of the Bay Wine Competition, its 2005 Thatcher Bay Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon won top red wine of the event! Fenestra Winery is our June 2009 Winery of the Month.

This is another wine produced from Ron Silva's vineyard in the Lodi region of California. Lodi is known for producing world-class Zinfandels but is also home to many unusual grape varietal plantings and Ron has a penchant for planting many of them.
Before I had a chance to taste this exceptional wine, the only Touriga I had tasted was blended in traditional Ports.
Wine tasting notes:This wine has a very distinctive bouquet of mulberry, plum, raspberry, and rose petal. On the palette it exhibits the flavors of raspberry, black cherry, mulberry and spice.
Food pairing suggestions:This wine exhibits an incredible bouquet unlike any wine I have tried. It's almost like perfume. It can be paired with aged cheese courses, rack of lamb, roast pork with a Cuban garlic citrus sauce, roast duck, or any roasted meats and of course your favorite grilled vegetables brushed with an olive oil and balsamic vinegar baste.
Winemaker technical notes:This wine is a blend of approximately equal amounts of Touriga Nacional and Touriga Franca with 10% Tinto Cão. All grapes came from the Ron Silva Vineyards and were picked mid to late October at 23-24º Brix. Aged 1½ years in mostly neutral American oak barrels.
