Double Crossed Wines: Bennett, what are your thoughts on the recent rise of popularity and use of wine aerators on the market. Tell me about the kind you like and the kind you don’t like and why.
Bennett King: I don’t use any aerators at all.
DCW: Ok…
BK: I’ll tell you why… Because it forces air through in bubbles, and what it does is throw the wine into shock. Now, if you can aerate a wine and let it sit for a half an hour, you know, great, that’s fine, because the wines gonna calm down, relax and become balanced again. But if you aerate a wine and shoot it into your glass and drink it, it’s gonna be completely out of balance. It’s going to be whacked.
DCW: Really…
BK: It’s going to be whacked with air.
DCW: So really what we’re talking about is… if your pour a glass of wine and let it rest for a half an hour it’s gonna essentially do the same thing.
BK: Same thing, and actually the best way to do it is to decant it.
Aeration for people who don’t have time…and people who don’t have time, shouldn’t be drinking wine to begin with.
DCW: I like that. That’s what it’s all about.
BK: Yeah ! (Laughs)
DCW: Well Hey Bro, thanks for that, I appreciate it. Well there you go.
